White Paper Shows How Electromagnetic Powder Brakes Can Meet the Full Range of Test Bench RequirementsOctober 8, 2025

Electromagnetic Powder Brakes

When you need to simulate torque resistance in test bench applications, various brakes and clutches can do the job. For many projects, however, such as space-limited automotive test benches, it is particularly critical to select a brake that achieves precise control at a reasonable cost without also incurring wear and tear. Often overlooked, electromagnetic powder brakes (EMPs) offer precise torque control in a compact unit, plus many other attractive features, including:

  • Precise torque control and positioning independent of the slip speed
  • Low power, requiring just a 24V DC to produce reliable torque output
  • High torque output for their low power consumption
  • High torque density for their size for easy integration
  • Fast response times of just 10 to 50 milliseconds
  • Wear-free, since the brakes are non-contact and contain no other wearing parts.

MEROBEL EMP brakes offer all of these benefits and more. And, when combined with a measurement and control system such as REDEX Group’s DG-BLOCK closed loop digital controller, can lay the foundation for a test bench that can address a wide range of requirements. A new article, Load Simulation for Motors Test Bench, describes MEROBEL EMP brakes and their working principle and benefits. It will also show how they can be deployed in several different test benches and provide a cost-effective option to meet the full spectrum of test bench requirements.

To learn more about MEROBEL EMP brakes and the DG-B LOCK compact digital PLC controller, stop by to see us during ATE Expo, October 21 to 23, Hall TXNA, Booth 10052 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan. And, be sure to download the white paper!
